About

BeneFund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit created to help improve student access to higher education and career opportunity by removing financial and cognitive barriers to success. We pursue this mission by providing student scholarships and support for programs aimed at college and career readiness.

We believe that a student's ability to achieve their dreams should not be limited by their current environment or finances.

Mission & Vision

We believe that a student's ability to achieve their dreams should not be limited by their current environment or finances. We also recognize that some students are discouraged by mental roadblocks, socioeconomic challenges, or just not knowing where to begin or what to do next.

Our mission is to help students unlock education and career opportunities by removing financial and cognitive barriers to success. Currently, we do this through the Benjamin E. Gordon Memorial Scholarship and the Justice League for Opportunity Fund.

Our future vision is to expand beyond financial support to also provide a tool box of resources including workshops, mentorship, career days, and connection to mental health resources to help students navigate their education and career journeys. While our efforts today focus on students and schools in Georgia, we envision scaling our impact more broadly in the future.

We are excited and grateful to be able to make an impact and believe that with the help of community donors and supporters, we can cultivate a generation of more informed, supported, and empowered students.

The Start

Words from the Founder

BeneFund began with a single scholarship—the Benjamin E. Gordon Memorial Scholarship—which I established in 2014 to honor my dad. Instead of celebrating my 25th birthday with a traditional party, I gathered family and friends for a fundraiser, initiating what would become an annual scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from my high school - Valdosta High.

This scholarship serves as a tribute to my father’s remarkable legacy and his unwavering dedication to education. A hard-working, honest man, my dad was deeply committed to creating the best life for our family. He was my greatest supporter, always encouraging me, believing in me when I doubted myself, and inspiring me to chase my biggest dreams.

My dad passed away unexpectedly during my third year of college due to a ruptured brain aneurysm, yet the hopes he held for me remained. I continued my education, earning a Marketing degree from Georgia State University and embarking on a career in Sales. Over six years in the field, I gained invaluable experience in business and self-discovery, which led me to pursue a full-time MBA at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, to further expand my skills and perspective. Today, I support clients in optimizing digital marketing strategies at an online media company, upholding my dad’s values of integrity, responsibility, humility, and self-discipline.

Reflecting on my journey, I am deeply grateful for the educational opportunities I’ve received, made possible by family, mentors, and faith. Through BeneFund, I aim to give back by empowering others to pursue their own goals, discover new paths, and realize their dreams. In this way, my father’s spirit of generosity and commitment to supporting others lives on.
